Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky told the UN Security Council on Wednesday that Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure are crimes against humanity.
In this regard, he explained via videoconference that, in conditions where the population endures sub-zero temperatures and tens of millions of people are left without electricity, the attacks against Ukrainian energy, which also affect other countries, become the «Russian formula for terror».
«While Ukraine offers a ten-point peace plan, Russia responds with missiles. We are waiting for a reaction to Russia’s terror. We need air defense systems. It is time to support the Ukrainian peace formula,» Zelensky sentenced, as reported by Ukrinform news agency.
The Ukrainian president also specified during his speech to the UN Security Council that «a terrorist state cannot participate in any vote related to its aggression», qualifying this situation as a «stalemate».
In this regard, Zelenski proposed to adopt a resolution condemning all forms of energy terror, while he asked the UN to condemn these acts and invited its experts to visit critical facilities in Ukraine that were destroyed by Russian missiles, as reported by Channel 24.
Authorities in Kiev reported on Wednesday that at least three people have been killed and six injured by new shelling carried out by Russian forces against several parts of the country, which has caused blackouts and cuts in the supply of drinking water in several areas.
These attacks have been condemned, among others, by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, who said on his Twitter profile that «depriving millions of electricity, tents and heating during the winter is cruel and inhuman».
