The Russian Defense Ministry announced Friday that the company Meta — parent company of the Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp platforms — has been included in the list of «extremist» organizations.
According to the Russian authorities, Meta would have allowed calls for violence against Russian citizens, according to the TASS news agency.
The Russian justice already declared Meta as a terrorist organization at the end of March, a decision that was ratified weeks later after the corresponding appeal by the US giant.
Russia has been pursuing Meta and its activities for months, as it considers that the company has allowed the social networks under its control to spread false information and «terrorist propaganda».
