The director of Haiti’s National Police Academy, Harington Rigaud, was killed Friday by gunmen in the commune of Pétion-Ville in Port-au-Prince, police sources said.
Rigaud was shot in front of the premises of the academy he heads as he was about to enter. After taking his life, the individuals took his car, police spokesman Garry Desrosiers said in statements reported by ‘Le National’.
A video posted on networks shows the director lifeless and full of blood after being assaulted by the attackers.
The Haitian National Police Union has previously indicated that more than thirty police officers have died in the Caribbean country due to violence so far in 2022.
In 2021, the figure was at least 44 officers killed, while eleven police stations suffered assaults in the same time period.
