Afghan authorities confirmed Tuesday that Pakistan has deported more than 30 Afghan refugees residing in the Asian country, which hosts, according to figures from the UN Refugee Agency, more than 1.3 million of its nationals.

Refugee and repatriation authorities in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, which borders Pakistan, confirmed the release and deportation of at least 32 undocumented Afghan refugees, Jaama news agency reported.

The Taliban deplored in early November the images of Pakistani police arresting and roping Afghan refugees in the city of Karachi, calling this behavior a «provocation», as reported by Tolo News.

Pakistan is one of the countries hosting the largest number of Afghan refugees, many of whom are undocumented. The migration wave began in December 1989 as a result of the war in the country against the Soviet Union and has continued since then, although in recent years a repatriation process has begun under UN supervision.

This comes against the backdrop of the arrival of a Pakistani government delegation in Kabul for meetings with the Taliban, a day after the armed group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), known as the Pakistani Taliban, announced the end of the ceasefire with Islamabad.
