The FBI has launched an investigation Sunday into a gun attack on two electricity substations in central North Carolina, United States.

Local authorities have established a countywide curfew «to protect citizens and businesses,» said county sheriff Ronnie Fields.

This rule is mandatory from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting Sunday night.

In this regard, the authorities have drawn up a plan for the coming nights. «It’s a very serious situation,» Fields added, explaining that there may be no electricity for several days.

The company has indicated that the estimated cost of the damage is «millions» of dollars, while noting that power restoration could be delayed until Thursday, reports CNN.

Nearly 40,000 residents of the U.S. county of Moore, North Carolina, were left without power as a result of what authorities are investigating a possible act of vandalism, after 7 p.m. Saturday.

«As utilities began responding to the various substations, evidence was uncovered indicating that intentional vandalism had occurred at several sites,» the sheriff’s office reported.
