Moldovan authorities have opened criminal proceedings on Tuesday over the fall of a missile in the town of Briceni, near its northern border with Ukraine, a day after Border Police found the remains of a projectile.

The Moldovan Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the police have already opened an investigation into the missile drop and reported that more debris of a device was found throughout the day.

The evidence and documents collected are expected to be handed over to the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime.

On Monday, Moldova’s Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita assured that the authorities are doing «everything possible to keep the situation under control».

On November 15, two people were killed after a projectile fell on Polish soil, although the government said there was «no hard evidence» as to who was behind the launch.

However, all indications are that the missile in question was launched by Ukrainian forces, who initially accused the Russian Army.
