Several members of the Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) have expressed their concern on Friday about the planning of a coup d’état in Germany by a far-right group.

«This alleged plot in Germany, which apparently targeted the Bundestag and other democratic institutions, as well as last year’s attack on the U.S. Capitol are vivid reminders that democracy cannot be taken for granted,» they said in a joint statement.

They have thus «welcomed» the ongoing investigation into the «plot» and called on the German authorities to be «as transparent as possible with regard to this group and its future plans.»

«We, the (OSCE) parliamentarians, must express our support for the rule of law and ensure that our social structures are sound and able to cope with the challenges that may arise,» they concluded.

The German Public Prosecutor’s Office reported on Wednesday that 25 people were arrested during a series of raids carried out by the police in eleven federal states. Of those arrested, 22 are accused of belonging to a terrorist organization that wanted to overthrow the political system. The other three face charges of complicity.

In addition, he identified the alleged ringleaders as ‘Rudiger’ and ‘Prince Henrich XIII’. The latter is the great-great-grandson of Wilhelm II of Germany, the last German emperor and king of Prussia, who was forced to abdicate in 1918 after World War I.
