The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has defended this Saturday that he is not intervening in the Peruvian political crisis generated around the dismissal of Pedro Castillo and that he is only giving his opinion, after being summoned by the Peruvian Foreign Ministry for his «interference» in internal affairs.

In a conversation with the media reported by ‘El Universal’, AMLO stated that «they are only giving their opinion, nothing more», although he pointed out that the events in Peru, referring to the arrest of Pedro Castillo, are «a violation of democracy».

In this sense, he accused the Andean country of «overreaching» by carrying out these actions against the former president and wondered what is the reason to remove him from his post if he was elected by the people.

He has also pointed out that those who support this procedure are conservative politicians and intellectuals such as Mario Vargas Llosa. «They like democracy when it suits them, but in democracy we all count the same, we are all equal, besides there are no races, that does not exist and there should be no racism, there should be no classism, there should be humanism», he defended.

Later, he lamented the situation in Peru, a country that he considers «has suffered a lot because of the problems it has caused to the elite».

«In six years, five presidents, one committed suicide, others in jail, others on the run. It is a lot of people in Peru for so few politicians», he said.
