The team of Brazil’s president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is studying ways to make Internet access cheaper in homes, especially for those under the CadÚnico government’s social program, as confirmed by former Communications Minister Paulo Bernardo.

«We are studying ways to make service packages cheaper, with a focus on home broadband, with fiber optics. We suggest starting there,» he stated in declarations to ‘O Globo’, confirming the information advanced by ‘Folha de Sao Paulo’.

Bernardo detailed that according to the inquiries made and the round of contacts with the main Internet connection providers, the country has the necessary infrastructure, so they are not going to invest in building more, but in lowering the rates and thus facilitating access.

In addition, Lula’s team, which will take office in January, is considering some alternatives such as tax reductions or an extra payment in the Auxilio Brasil subsidies, which will be renamed Bolsa Familia.

However, Bernardo emphasized that the policy is at an early stage and is not yet a program, since other areas have yet to be heard, and will be deepened as soon as the new government of the president-elect is formed.
