Peru’s former president Ollanta Humala (2011-2016) has recommended the country’s government to announce an early election «for the good» of the country, in the context of protests in several cities that have left at least two dead and several dozen injured.

«For the good of the Republic, in the shortest possible time, the Executive must give a message to the country announcing the advancement of general elections,» Humala has indicated through a message on his profile on the social network Twitter.

Thus, he considered that this message should be given quickly because the current Congress «will not make any reforms», he added shortly after Peruvian authorities confirmed the death of two demonstrators and 30 wounded.

Humala expressed his «total rejection» of the «coup d’état» of former president Pedro Castillo, who was arrested after announcing the dissolution of Congress and decreeing a government «of exception». «The Armed Forces owe honor and loyalty to the homeland and not to a dictator», he declared in the same line as other former leaders of the country such as Martin Vizcarra or Francisco Sagasti.
