Iranian authorities on Monday executed the second prisoner to be officially sentenced for an alleged crime stemming from protests organized in different parts of the country since the death in police custody of young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini.

The prisoner, identified as Majidreza Rahnavard, was sentenced to death for allegedly killing two members of the security forces and injuring four others with a knife in late November.

Officers reportedly arrested the suspect on November 28, while he was planning to flee the country. Immediately after the arrest, the prosecution of his case reportedly began, reports the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

At the court session, the accused reportedly accepted his responsibility for the crimes, regretting that he had «afflicted many families».

At the end of last week, Iran announced that it had executed the first prisoner, identified as Mohsen Shekari, convicted of «intentionally» wounding a security guard with a long knife and blocking a street in the capital.
