The leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, said Tuesday that Russian forces will «soon» take control of the town of Marinka, located in this territory, amid the fighting recorded during the last few days in the area.

«The situation in Marinka is complicated, but it is moving towards the fact that this locality will soon be under our control,» he has indicated in an interview to journalist Vladimir Solovyov. Shortly before, Vitaly Kiseliov, advisor to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Lugansk People’s Republic, had stated that the town is surrounded by Russian troops.

Pushilin also denounced that the Ukrainian army has increased the intensity of its attacks on Donetsk in recent days and stressed that «never» so many attacks have been registered since the beginning of the conflict in Donbas in 2014.

«If you consider the situation in Donetsk, it has never been attacked in this way, neither in 2014, nor in 2015. The enemy fires on a regular basis, every day, twice or three times a day, at different times and against different places,» he stressed, Russian news agency TASS reported.

Russia announced in September the annexation of Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporiyia, all partially occupied after the invasion, unleashed on February 24 by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The decision was rejected by Kiev and the international community.
