Ecuador’s president, Guillermo Lasso, has lashed out at the judge who applied alternative measures and released five alleged criminals, including the person possibly responsible for the death of El Inca prison director Santiago Loza.
Although at first Lasso has chosen not to describe the judge responsible for this measure, later he has ventured to call him «enemy of public safety» and «defender of criminals», as reported by the Ecuadorian newspaper ‘El Universo’.
«It cannot be that the effort of the National Police ends in the irresponsibility of a judge who lets free seasoned criminals», said the Ecuadorian president during his speech at an event with the Police.
Finally, Lasso called on the president of the Judiciary Council of Ecuador to apply exemplary sanctions against the magistrate, whom he accused once again of being «on the side of the criminals and not on the side of the citizens».
Loza was found dead in early December on the outskirts of the country’s capital, Quito, the victim of a «deadly attack». The director of the El Inca penitentiary had been in office for just three weeks.
