South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has expressed his concern about Pyongyang’s nuclear program at a meeting in Seoul with the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi.

Yoon called for the IAEA’s involvement in North Korea’s denuclearization by strengthening its stance on monitoring its neighbor’s nuclear activities, deputy presidential spokesman Lee Jae Myoung said in a statement, as reported by Yonhap.

Grossi landed in South Korea on Wednesday to meet with Seoul officials to discuss issues as diverse as North Korea’s nuclear program or treated radioactive water from the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant.

«ROK is a leader in nuclear energy and its peaceful application for development. Excellent in-depth exchange with President Yoon Suk Yeol: thank you for your full support for a nuclear safety and security protection zone in Zaporiyia,» the IAEA director said on his Twitter profile.

Later, Grossi has met with South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin. «South Korea is a leading nation in the nuclear field, strongly committed to non-proliferation and nuclear safety and security,» he said in another message on the social network.
