German police have arrested a drunken train driver after a chaotic journey through the southwestern city of Stuttgart, during which he went so far as to voice his dissatisfaction with his job and his company over the loudspeaker.

In a country where expectations of punctuality are high, especially when it comes to train schedules, it soon became clear that this was no ordinary journey, as the 43-year-old driver ignored several stations where the commuter train was supposed to stop, according to a police spokesman consulted by DPA.

At other stations, however, the train driver either did not open the doors or did so with a considerable delay.

Meanwhile, the driver also made several announcements over the public address system to criticize his job and his company, the police told DPA.

As the train sped past the stop in the town of Rutesheim, 25 kilometers west of Sttugart, a woman waiting to pick up her daughter who was traveling on the line alerted the police.

The driver managed to make another turn on his unscheduled route before police officers were able to stop him.

A test showed a BAC equivalent to around 2.8 grams of alcohol per liter of blood.

The man is being investigated on suspicion of dangerous interference with rail traffic.
