Peru’s Council of State has appealed Friday to the people involved in the protests that are sweeping the country to cease demonstrations and clashes with the police and to participate in dialogue tables.
In a press conference after meeting with President Dina Boluarte, the head of the National Justice Board (JNJ), Jose Avila, has indicated that although «in many areas order has been restored», in others the protests could be democratically channeled with dialogue tables, Andina news agency reported.
«We want to invoke the citizens that if they have social demands, if they have claims, the Executive has begun to promote dialogue tables, in order to be able to democratically channel these social claims that citizens have the right to raise, but not through violence, but through dialogue», he has indicated.
Likewise, he stated that «this is the best way to solve some of the requests of the population», stressing that «violence generates damage and affects the life and integrity of people», a fact that «34 million Peruvians cannot tolerate and allow».
«In that sense, to make that invocation to all citizens to desist from those violent actions and seek spaces for dialogue, the ministers are going to the various areas to establish that dialogue. In a political community we must dialogue citizens with the authorities, that is the best example we can give,» he said.
The Peruvian government has decreed a national state of emergency for a period of 30 days in response to the protests that are taking place throughout the country following the dismissal and arrest of former president Pedro Castillo.
Likewise, the Executive has declared an emergency in the National Road Network, allowing the Army to take to the streets in an effort to protect the strategic points of the country, especially after the death of more than twenty people in just over a week of demonstrations.
