Chinese city of Chongqing asks people to come to work with mild symptoms of COVID-19

The authorities of the city of Chongqing have asked on Monday the population to go to work despite having symptoms of coronavirus as long as they are mild and in view of the increase in cases reported throughout the country after Beijing decided to lift some of the restrictions imposed.

In this regard, the Government has clarified that «those without symptoms or with mild symptoms may continue to work as long as they take personal protective measures». This measure has been put in place after the Chinese government abandoned part of its ‘zero COVID’ policy in the face of the strong wave of protests registered during the last month.

Now, the city of Chongqing will not require the test to enter public spaces, from government institutions to companies, except for access to «special places» such as schools, kindergartens and nursing homes, according to the South China Morning Post.

However, cases continue to increase in the area while the authorities insist that the «most important measure to ensure protection is vaccination».

At the end of November, the population took to the streets in the main cities to demand more freedoms in a harsh blow to the president, Xi Jinping, who was even asked to resign after months of harsh confinements and mandatory quarantines.

The problems caused by the establishment of these regulations, which have led to the inaction of the authorities in emergency situations, have made an already extremely tense situation explode in a country where large-scale protests are not common.
