At least four members of Iran’s security forces were killed Monday in a clash with unidentified gunmen in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Balochistan, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has confirmed.
The agency has detailed that the incident took place in the Saravan region, located near the border with Pakistan, and stressed that four agents have fallen «martyrs» in fighting with «terrorists», as reported by the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
He also stressed that the attackers had fled across the border to Pakistan after the fighting, without claiming responsibility for the attack for the moment. Saravan is located about 40 kilometers from the common border.
The province of Sistan and Balochistan has been the scene of attacks by the Sunni militia Jaish al Adl, which operates in the border area and has launched attacks against Iranian security forces in recent years, prompting Tehran to criticize Islamabad for not fighting the group hard.
