A court in the city of Sevastopol on the Crimean peninsula on Monday sentenced Russian citizen Yevgeni Petrushin to 12 years’ imprisonment in a penal colony for leaking information to Ukraine about Russia’s Black Sea fleet.
Russia’s Federal Security Service (SFB) said in a statement that the man has also been sentenced to pay a fine of 100,000 rubles (about 1,400 euros), according to information from the Interfax news agency.
Petrushin has been accused of «following the instructions of the Ukrainian Intelligence between 2020 and 2021 to collect and transmit information on the activities of the Black Sea Fleet, data that can be used to undermine Russia’s security.»
His activities were detected by members of the FSB’s military counterintelligence units. Petrushin was arrested in April 2021, but in June he was transferred to Moscow, the Russian capital.
