Russia’s Defense Ministry announced Monday that its Army will conduct battalion tactical exercises in Belarus, where soldiers have been moved to support the offensive against Ukraine.
«The final characterization of the combat capability and combat readiness of the units will be given by the command at the final stage of coordination, after the battalion tactical exercises have been conducted,» reads a statement from the ministry portfolio picked up by the Russian Interfax news agency.
Thus, the Ministry has indicated that the Armed Forces «continue the intensive combat training course» in Belarus, where day and night training classes are held, so that it considers that «the pace of combat coordination of Russian military personnel» is «high».
The presidents of Russia and Belarus, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko, respectively, will hold a meeting this Monday in Minsk to discuss bilateral issues and the war in Ukraine, unleashed on February 24 by order of the Russian president.
Putin ordered the start of the invasion of Ukraine days after recognizing the independence of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, located in the Donbas region (east) and the scene of a conflict since 2014. Moscow announced in September the annexation of these regions and those of Kherson and Zaporiyia, partially occupied in the framework of the conflict.
