UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has reported that he plans to send a new shipment of artillery ammunition to Ukraine in 2023 valued at about £250 million (about €280 million) to meet the advance to Russian troops in the midst of their invasion of the country.

In a statement released ahead of Sunak’s visit to Riga, Latvia, the British premier said that «hundreds and hundreds of artillery munitions will be delivered next year under a contract that guarantees the steady flow of this type of equipment to Ukraine through 2023».

Sunak is scheduled to meet with his counterparts from the Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as the Dutch head of government. «From the Arctic Circle to the Isle of Wight, the UK and its European allies have been up to the task in their response to the invasion of Ukraine. We remain ready to achieve peace in Europe again,» Sunak pointed out.

However, he warned that «to achieve peace we need to stop the aggression, and for that joint deployment across the region is vitally important to ensure that we are prepared to respond to the greatest of threats.»

The British government has indicated that the meeting scheduled for this day will allow the parties to address intelligence issues, such as the threats posed by Russia and the possible inclusion of Sweden and Finland in NATO.

Afterwards, Sunak will head to Estonia, where he will meet with British and NATO troops deployed on the eastern flank, on the border with Russia.
