North Korea on Tuesday accused Japan of formalizing its invasion-oriented security strategy, which revolves around the «counterattack capability» of enemy bases, and warned of «real action» in response.
Pyongyang’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Tokyo is «unleashing a serious threat» to the region’s security by adopting the new policy of acquiring the capability to carry out preemptive strikes against other nations, KCNA reported.
Because of this move, according to North Korea, «security conditions in East Asia have changed radically and Japan will realize that it has made a wrong and very dangerous decision,» an unnamed North Korean diplomatic spokesman said.
«In response to Japan’s move to realize unjust and unconscionable ambition, North Korea will continue to show how much we are concerned and disgusted by the actual action,» the official has said, without specifying what that action would be.
Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Friday unveiled what is seen as the country’s most ambitious strategic security review since World War II, one that could foreshadow a radical shift away from a historic policy limited to national «self-defense,» and whereby Japanese forces would end up able to launch counterattacks outside their borders.
This new initiative, which could require an increase of up to one hundred percent in Japan’s annual defense budget, comes at a time when Japan is threatened by the growing military influence of China – which has already repudiated this document – in regional waters and North Korea’s constant ballistic tests.
