Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksei Reznikov has acknowledged that the danger of the Russian Armed Forces launching an attack from Belarusian territory, as happened during the early stages of the war in the Chernobyl area, still «persists».
Reznikov stressed that part of Belarusian territory could become a «target for an attack» in case Russia forms a strike group, something which, for the time being, has not occurred, according to the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform.
The Ukrainian Defense Minister considers that the Russian Armed Forces require more time to form a battalion in this area, and pointed out that such a hypothetical Russian attack from Belarus could take place between January and April.
These declarations by Reznikov come just one day after Russian President Vladimir Putin traveled to Belarus to meet his counterpart Alexander Lukashenko. From Kiev, Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba has interpreted this visit as part of Moscow’s efforts to involve Minsk in the war.
