A project carried out between the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Ukrzaliznytsia, the state railway transport company in Ukraine, will organize train trips with performances and more than 30 thousand gifts for Ukrainian children living near the front line and in unoccupied areas on the occasion of St. Nicholas Day, This was welcomed in his daily speech by the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who emphasized on the St. Nicholas Day – the holiday when the first gifts are delivered to children in the country – the actions carried out by the organizations to bring the Christmas season closer to the Ukrainian children.
«Today, right on St. Nicholas Day, the project of Ukrzaliznytsia and UNICEF began, a joint project that can bring a vacation to Ukrainian children to those who live near the front and in the unoccupied areas,» he said in his speech.
Several trains are expected to depart in three directions. The first of them left this Monday from the Donetsk region, the second one will leave on December 21 for the Kharkov region and on the 23rd for Nicolaiev and Kherson.
«I would also like to thank UNICEF separately for more than $100 million in aid to Ukrainian families. More than 120,000 families, particularly those with four or more children and disabled children, will be able to receive financial assistance. In total, the program will cover more than 600,000 Ukrainians,» the President stressed.
In his speech, the Ukrainian leader also wanted to emphasize the search for international support for the coming year: «The key task for all of us now, my task and the task of each of our diplomats and officials, is that the world support for Ukraine next year not only remains at the same level as this year, but increases».
In this context, the president met on Monday with the leaders of the UK Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF). «My call today was very specific. Weapons, ammunition, new defense capabilities? Everything that will allow us to accelerate the end of this war,» Zelenski added.
