The president of Belarus on Thursday blamed the deployment of Belarusian troops on the border with Ukraine on «fear of aggression from a neighboring country» in the midst of the Russian invasion.
«We have launched maneuvers to test the army’s capacity for immediate reaction. If something unexpected happens, these forces are on guard and are sent to the areas of tension,» he said.
In this sense, he explained that he has decided to «send immediate response forces» to areas in the south of the country, as reported by the BelTA news agency. Thus, Lukashenko indicated that «we cannot rule out an aggression against our country».
«At least, we see preparation on the part of our neighbors. We know who is pressuring these countries to create tension on the border,» he said before urging «not to pay attention to conspiracy theories.» «If you want peace, prepare for war. I want to answer in this way to the rumors about the movement of Belarusian troops and joint maneuvers conducted with Russia,» he said.
Lukashenko has also reminded that Belarus and Russia created a coordinated action group in view of the existing threats to both countries in the region. «We have been conducting military exercises due to the large-scale threats we receive,» he has asserted.
