Mexican authorities confirmed Thursday the arrest of nearly thirty alleged members of the Jalisco Cartel – New Generation (CJNG) in a major blow against the organization.
This was confirmed by the undersecretary of federal Public Security, Ricardo Mejia Berdeja, who confirmed that among those arrested was Carlos Enrique N., the leader of a cell that operated for the cartel in Mexico City.
These arrests are in addition to that of Antonio Oseguera, alias «Tony Montana,» who was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning in the town of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, in the state of Jalisco. Oseguera is the brother of CJNG leader Nemesio Oseguera, alias «El Mencho.
Tony Montana’ is considered by Mexican authorities to be an «alleged logistical operator» for the CJNG and responsible for money laundering activities. It is presumed that he was in charge of acquiring weapons and coordinating violent acts.
Following the arrest of ‘Tony Montana’, Jalisco authorities declared themselves on alert for a possible response from the cartel similar to the one that occurred in October 2019 when the arrest of Ovidio Guzmán, son of renowned drug trafficker ‘Chapo Guzmán’, led to violent clashes.
Mexican authorities have dealt a major blow to the structure of the Jalisco Cartel – New Generation and these arrests follow that of Rosalinda Gonález Valencia, the cartel leader’s partner, last year.
