The U.S. Treasury Department announced Thursday that it has imposed sanctions against a dozen Russian entities linked to the naval technology sector, a move that is again part of the U.S. government’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said in a statement that the entities include Russian companies and research institutes, all related to the sector.
For its part, the US State Department has indicated in a statement that these actions «represent a serious cost for the Russian ‘establishment’ linked to defense issues» and has asserted that the measure has been taken in response to (Vladimir) Putin’s «unjustified war against Ukraine».
These entities include the lithium battery manufacturer Rigel, the communication and navigation systems manufacturer Elektropribor, a leading supplier of automated systems for ships and submarines, Avrora, as well as the Prometey institute and an oceanographic center, among others.
