The Chilean government has decreed on Thursday night a constitutional state of emergency due to the fires that are raging in the Chilean region of Valparaiso, more specifically around the city of Viña del Mar.
This has been reported by the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, in a statement, assuring that the measure will allow the Government to have all the tools «necessary» to fight the fires.
This declaration gives the Government the power to take control and requisition all the goods, in order to be able to confront «the emergency in Viña del Mar», as reported by ‘Bio Bio Chile’.
«Our priority as the Chilean government is the safety of people and we will continue to deploy all necessary resources to control the emergency and quickly support the affected families,» said the Chilean president in a message on Twitter.
In this sense, Boric has called on citizens to support the work of emergency services and security forces by following the recommendations of prevention and care in the face of forest fires.
