The Russian authorities have assured Friday that they have no record of the alleged peace plan that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about at the U.S. Capitol during his historic visit to Washington.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticized that in speaking of such a plan for peace, President Zelensky «does not take into account the current realities» of the war in Ukraine. «They cannot be ignored,» he stressed.
Peskov thus reacted to Zelensky’s remarks in Washington, where he claimed to have discussed with his U.S. peer, Joe Biden, a ten-point peace plan for implementing security. «We need peace, and Ukraine has already offered proposals,» he said.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that Ukrainian authorities are working on the details of a peace proposal, which could see the light of day next February, the one-year anniversary of the outbreak of the war.
Speculations about a possible peace plan or about a return to the dialogue table to reach an agreement between Russia and Ukraine have returned to prominence in recent weeks, although it is true that the international community has advocated leaving the timing of this process in the hands of Kiev.
The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, already pointed out on Thursday that «sooner or later» both parties would end up sitting down to negotiate to put an end to a war that he himself started. The Russian president took the opportunity to recall that the vast majority of international conflicts that have been solved have been solved through diplomatic channels.
