The North Korean government on Friday denied allegations of an alleged arms supply to Russia, Japanese media reported.
A spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry has pointed out that Pyongyang has never had arms transactions with Moscow in the framework of the war in Ukraine.
«The Japanese media’s false report that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) offered ammunition to Russia is the most absurd red herring, which does not deserve any comment or interpretation,» the spokesman said, as reported by the North Korean news agency KCNA.
Japanese media reported Thursday that North Korea transported artillery shells and other ammunition by train from Rason to the border cities of Khasan, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.
Subsequently, the United States confirmed that the Wagner group had purchased weapons from Pyongyang for use in Ukraine, where the Russian mercenary group supports the Russian Army.
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told a press conference that Wagner «has been forced to rely on pariah states to sustain its military campaign in Ukraine».
«We assess that the amount of materiel delivered to Wagner will not change the battlefield dynamics in Ukraine, but we are concerned that North Korea plans to deliver more military equipment to Wagner,» he sentenced.
PYONGYANG BLAMES U.S. FOR SITUATION IN UKRAINE The North Korean Foreign Ministry has additionally pointed the finger at the United States for aid packages provided to Kiev in the framework of the Russian invasion launched on February 24 on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
«The international community will have to focus on the criminal acts of the United States in shedding blood and destroying Ukraine by providing it with various types of weapons and lethal equipment on a large scale,» the ministerial portfolio notes.
Thus, after reiterating denunciation of the accusations of the «groundless theory of the ‘arms transaction'» between Korea and Russia «invented by dishonest forces for different purposes,» it has shown its support for Moscow.
