At least nine members of the Syrian security forces have been killed in several attacks carried out over the past day by Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), a coalition of militias that includes former fighters of al Nusra Front, the defunct Syrian affiliate of Al Qaeda.
The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, with informants in the Arab country, has pointed out that the attacks have been carried out at several points along the line of contact agreed in the ceasefire agreement between Turkey and Russia in 2020, without Damascus having commented on the matter.
Thus, he has indicated that at least three members of the government forces have been killed this Saturday in an artillery attack against their positions in the town of Al Fatira, while two others have died after being shot by snipers in Maarat Mujas.
On the other hand, two members of the Syrian forces were shot dead in Saraqueb, east of Idlib, while two others were killed by sniper fire in the same area, as detailed by the agency through its website.
HTS is the most relevant armed group in Idlib province, which remains outside the control of the Syrian authorities. In Idlib also operate several armed groups supported by Turkey, which has also deployed military in this province.
