Iranian authorities said Sunday that they have arrested at least seven people in the southeastern Iranian province of Kerman who were part of an «organized network» with alleged links to the United Kingdom in the context of protests in the country.
The detainees of the alleged network, called «Zagros,» are involved in «planning, directing and producing content, as well as organizing and stirring up protests» in Iran, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Kerman has reported.
The social media accounts of the seven people involved, some of whom are dual nationals, and who intended to flee the country, according to Tehran, have been suspended, IRNA news agency reported.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard recently confirmed that more than 300 people have died since the beginning of the protests, in what was the first official balance since the beginning of the mobilizations due to the death of Amini, a member of the Iranian Kurdish minority. The figure is lower than the one provided by the NGO Iran Human Rights which points to more than 400 deaths due to repression by the security forces.
