Ukrainian authorities on Sunday put the number of civilians killed and at least 72 wounded following the latest Russian offensive on Christmas Eve at 16.
The deputy head of the Presidential Office, Kirilo Tymoshenko, has specified that all the fatalities have been registered in the Kherson region, as well as 64 wounded. The rest were located seven in Donetsk and one in Kharkov.
The Kherson region has been the hardest hit by Russian attacks in the last 24 hours. In total, it has been hit by 74 Russian missile and rocket impacts. The projectiles have hit critical infrastructure facilities, as well as private buildings, a hospital and a school, among others.
Throughout last night, more shelling by Russian forces has been recorded in the Sumy, Kharkiv and Zaporiyia regions, and Mikolaiv among others.
In this context the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denis Shmigal, has congratulated the Ukrainians for the holidays and thanked them for the fortitude they have shown since Russia began its invasion ten months ago.
«The war has separated many of us…. However, despite all the shelling and terrorist attacks, we will persevere. Neither cold, nor hunger, nor darkness will make us despair,» the Ukrainian prime minister has emphasized.
