At least 26 people have died as freezing temperatures hit parts of the Midwest and eastern United States after at least seven U.S. states confirmed deaths in the last few hours.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said it was the «most devastating» storm in Buffalo’s history, with nearly 100 centimeters of snow falling. The storm has killed at least seven people in Erie County, according to CNN.
Although weather conditions have improved during the day, more than 55 million people are under low temperature alert, being the coldest December 25 since 1983 for cities such as Miami, Tampa, Orlando and West Palm Beach.
Other incidents caused or related to the storm have claimed the lives during the last few days of two people in Colorado, three in Kansas, three in Kentucky, one in Missouri, eight in Ohio, as well as one in Tennessee and another in Wisconsin.
