The presidents of Russia and China, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, respectively, will hold a conversation before the end of the year, the Kremlin confirmed Monday, giving no details on a possible date or the content of the agenda.
«This contact is being prepared,» Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. «We will contact our Chinese friends in an appropriate manner,» he has stressed, Russian news agency Interfax has reported.
Thus, he has indicated that it is still premature to talk about the format in which the conversation will take place, in relation to whether it could be by telephone or telematically, while he has ruled out that there are plans for a similar contact between Putin and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.
Putin and Xi met in September face-to-face for the first time since the start of the war in Ukraine, triggered on February 24 by the invasion order given by the Russian leader. China has shown its support for Russia and has held the United States and NATO responsible for what it describes as military expansionism.
