Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to facilitate the implementation of a peace formula that would lead to the end of the war in Ukraine, which was started by Russia more than ten months ago.
Zelenski and Modi held a telephone conversation on Monday in which the Ukrainian leader wished a «successful» presidency of the G20 to the Indian leader, and recalled that it was precisely in that forum where he spoke for the first time of this peace formula.
«It was on this platform that I announced the peace formula and now I count on the participation of India in its implementation,» Zelenski said on his Twitter profile, where he also expressed his gratitude for the humanitarian support and the support before the United Nations.
Modi, for his part, released a statement in which he confirmed having discussed with Zelenski aspects related to the war in Ukraine, and placed special emphasis on the situation of Indian students in Ukraine who had to return to India due to the outbreak of the conflict.
«Prime Minister Modi strongly reiterated his call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and said that both sides must return to dialogue and diplomacy to find a lasting solution to their differences,» the Indian head of government’s office has added regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Finally, the Indian Prime Minister assured his support for «any peace efforts» and pledged to «continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected civilian population».
India has adopted a neutral stance since the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine at the end of February. New Delhi has stayed away from international sanctions against Moscow and has advocated dialogue between the parties.
