A 38-year-old Iranian man committed suicide on Monday by jumping into the Rhone River and posted a video shortly before to denounce the «violent» repression experienced by the population in Iran following the protests that erupted after the death of young Mahsa Amini.
In a video posted on his Instagram profile, Mohamed Moradi, a student who had been residing in the city of Lyon since 2019 with his wife, explained that the Police were attacking people in the country and that Iranians had lost «many sons and daughters,» as reported Tuesday by the BFTV channel.
«I decided to commit suicide (and throw myself) into the Rhone River. We Iranians are very, very tired of this situation (…). By the time you see this video I will be dead,» he said the day before, adding that his actions are to show the world that «Iranians need help.»
As reported by the regional daily ‘Le Progres’, several witnesses tried unsuccessfully to prevent Moradi from jumping into the Rhone. They then raised the alarm to the French fire department, which went to the scene.
The divers found his body trapped by the branches and subsequently transferred him to the shore to perform resuscitation maneuvers, but the man eventually died. The authorities have already opened an investigation to clarify all the details of his suicide.
