Ukrainian authorities said Tuesday that the latest words of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán supporting a ceasefire and a dialogue between Kiev and Moscow are a «roundabout» way of calling for Russia’s triumph in the war, as well as a sign of his «pathological contempt» for Ukraine.
«The statements of the prime minister of Hungary demonstrate pathological contempt for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, who are resisting Russian aggression, as well as his own political myopia,» says a brief, but forceful statement from the Ukrainian foreign portfolio.
In this regard, Kiev has warned that the defeat of Ukraine that Viktor Orbán is «indirectly» calling for would only «lead to a threat of direct aggression by Russia towards Hungary and Hungarians».
«The Hungarian leader should ask himself whether he wants peace. If the answer is yes, he should use his close ties with Moscow to stop its aggression against Ukraine and withdraw its troops,» the Kiev statement has concluded.
The statement of the Ukrainian diplomacy is a response to some declarations of Orbán to the media in which he reconfirmed that Hungary bets for a cease-fire and the beginning of a peace negotiation between the two parties, pointing out that Ukraine will only be able to continue fighting as long as money and weapons from its partners in Washington continue to arrive.
