A Ukrainian court has sentenced to 15 years in prison a man accused of handing over to Russia information on the Army’s deployment and armament in the northeastern Sumy region of the country, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported.
«SBU counterintelligence continues to systematically pursue traitors who helped the aggressor in the war against Ukraine,» it has said in a statement posted on its website, before adding that the «Russian agent» had carried out «reconnaissance work» in the border area.
Thus, he has stated that «together with an accomplice, he collected information on the deployment locations, the number of personnel and weapons available in the units of the Defense Forces in the region.» «The occupiers planned to use the information received to prepare to break through the border through sabotage and reconnaissance groups,» he specified.
The SBU has noted that «the enemy’s accomplice is a local resident who was recruited by the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.» «The investigation was carried out by SBU employees in Sumy and Vinnytsia regions under the guidance of the Sumy regional prosecutor’s office,» he remarked.
