The Ukrainian Defense Ministry confirmed Tuesday the delivery of another 18 million euros from Sweden to reinforce its defenses in the ten-month war with Russia.
«The freedom and independence of the Ukrainian people is a prerequisite for a safe and secure Europe,» said Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, quoted by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
«Sweden is proud to support our Ukrainian friends. This is important for Ukraine, for Europe and for the whole world – Merry Christmas, dear friends!» the Swedish Embassy in Kiev said.
The new aid package will be directed to the International Support Fund for Ukraine, which is managed by the United Kingdom and serves, among other things, to strengthen the military potential of the Ukrainian forces.
In addition to Sweden, its Finnish neighbors announced on Christmas Eve their eleventh aid package for Ukraine since the Russian invasion began. In total, Helsinki has earmarked military resources and equipment worth more than 189 million euros.
