Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Monday the discovery of 58 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Black Sea.
Erdogan, after detailing that this discovery is located 3,023 meters under the sea, stressed that the country’s natural gas reserves amount to 710 billion cubic meters with a value of one trillion dollars, according to the Anatolia news agency.
The Turkish leader has reported that the country’s authorities will connect the discovered gas to integrate it into the national energy system. «We are determined to ensure that Turkey will be the energy hub of the Caspian Sea, Mediterranean and Middle East,» he said.
«Our find will pave the way for similar discoveries in other geological fields adjacent to the region. We will launch new drilling as soon as possible,» he added.
«We will connect east and west, not only with our bridges (…), but also with energy bridges». Thus, the Turkish president has pointed out that the country’s «ultimate goal» is to declare energy independence from foreign oil and natural gas as soon as possible.
Erdogan has communicated that the country’s intention is to achieve a production of 100,000 barrels, while the current daily domestic oil production is 80,000 barrels.
