The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo has sent a letter to the member countries of the European Union to take measures against Serbia and to make it cooperate in the peaceful resolution of the tensions in the northern part of Kosovo.

The document, as reported by the Dukagjini media, asks the international community to encourage Serbia to return to dialogue and provides a chronological record of the latest incidents in the north of the region.

«At best, Serbia is deliberately trying to destabilize Kosovo to prevent the progress of the dialogue, especially in the context of the new plan proposed by the EU (backed by France and Germany) to normalize relations,» according to the said media, as picked up by the Kosovo Online portal.

In addition, the document recognizes that the escalation of attacks is reminiscent of the ‘modus operandi’ of the Serbian authorities to start armed conflicts in the 1990s.

The content of the letter would also include all the altercations experienced since December 10, from the erection of barricades by the Serb minority in Mitrovica, a city in northern Kosovo, to the attacks on journalists from the Kosovar media.

CONDEMNS ATTACKS ON JOURNALISTS «We strongly condemn attacks on journalists by extremists in northern Kosovo. In the last three weeks, journalists have been repeatedly attacked by criminal groups trying to destabilize Kosovo,» Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Foreign Ministry Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz shared in a message on Twitter on Tuesday.

«The international community must urgently intervene in Belgrade and protect free media. This must stop. Now,» the minister added.

For his part, the Russian ambassador in Belgrade, Alexander Botsan-Jarchenko, warned hours earlier that the tense situation between Serbia and Kosovo is developing and moving towards a «very dangerous» scenario.

According to the Russian diplomatic representative, the situation «is heating up», especially in the north of Kosovo, and he warned that «any provocation» could happen at any moment.

«Pristina is increasing its military presence», Botsan-Jarchenko reproached in an interview for the Zvezda television channel, picked up by TASS, and in which he accused the Kosovar authorities of trying to control the Serbian population areas.
