Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide during the Trump administration, has claimed that she saw how then-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows used to burn documentation during the final weeks in office, according to transcripts of her Jan. 6 committee testimony.
Hutchinson, one of the star witness of the public hearings of the committee that was in charge of investigating what happened around the assault on the Capitol, has recounted, according to transcripts released Tuesday, that he saw Meadows use the fireplace in his office several times in December 2020.
«Once or twice a week (…) Maybe a dozen times, maybe a little more (…) between December and mid-January,» said Hutchinson, who, however, could not specify whether all that Meadows threw into the fire were only duplicates or the first original copies, or if it was protected material.
Hutchinson also revealed that on at least two occasions the burning of documents was carried out after meeting with Republican representative Scott Perry, one of Trump’s allies accused of trying to use the Department of Justice to annul the election in which Joe Biden won.
In these latest transcripts that have been made public, Hutchinson also refers to several conversations that took place within the walls of the White House about conspiracy theory groups like QAnon.
