Ukraine’s Defense Ministry warned Thursday that the alleged missile intercepted by Belarus, and of which Minsk accuses Kiev, may have actually been launched by Russia in an attempt at «deliberate provocation.»
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has warned that Russia’s «desperate and persistent» attempts to involve Belarus in the war could have led Moscow to launch a false flag attack against its main ally.
Kiev has confirmed its readiness to carry out an «objective investigation» of what happened within the framework, they justify, of a massive attack by the Russian Armed Forces in up to 10 regions across the Ukrainian territory.
«Ukraine is ready to invite authorized experts from among the states that are not connected with the support of the terrorist state of Russia in any way to participate in such an investigation,» the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.
Kiev has also used this statement to denounce the incessant Russian attacks on the entire Ukrainian territory. According to the Defense Ministry, more than 18 residential buildings and ten points of critical infrastructure in ten regions have been destroyed.
«The world cannot stand aside from these crimes. So-called neutrality, caution and restraint are support for a terrorist state (…) Ukraine continues to resist Russian barbarism and aggression,» the Ukrainian military portfolio concluded.
The Belarusian government said Thursday that its air defense systems had intercepted a missile fired from Ukraine and that several pieces of the projectile had hit the area around the town of Gobarja, with no reports of casualties so far.
In this context, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry has summoned the Ukrainian ambassador in Minsk, Igor Kizim, to personally convey to him its displeasure over an incident which the country’s president, Alexander Lukashenko, has ordered to be thoroughly investigated.
Lukashenko is a key ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the military offensive launched in Ukraine, although Belarus maintains that it does not want to be directly involved. Russian and Belarusian forces have, however, conducted joint maneuvers.
