Ukrainian authorities have denounced Thursday a new wave of Russian attacks with «more than a hundred missiles» and drones, with no casualties reported so far, in the midst of the invasion unleashed on February 24 by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
«More than a hundred missiles in multiple waves,» Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovich said in a message on his account on the social network Twitter. «Air defense systems are working,» he has said, before asking the population not to post photos of the hit sites.
Mikhail Podoliak, also an advisor to the Ukrainian Presidency, has raised to «more than 120» the missiles fired by the Russian forces and has outlined that the objective is «to destroy critical infrastructure and kill civilians en masse». «We are waiting for the next proposals of the ‘peace advocates’ on a ‘peaceful settlement’, ‘security guarantees for Russia’ and on the inadequacy of provocations,» he ironized.
Likewise, the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, has indicated in a brief message on his Telegram account that «several explosions» have been registered in the capital, without specifying whether they are impacts or the shots of air defense systems.
The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovi, has indicated that «explosions have been heard in Lviv» and has asked the population to «stay in shelters».
For his part, the mayor of Kharkov, Igor Terekhov, confirmed the impact of projectiles in the Slobid district, while the governor of Mikolaiv, Vitali Kim, assured that the army had shot down five Russian missiles over the Black Sea.
The Ukrainian Air Force has highlighted that «after a night of kamikaze drone attacks, the enemy attacks Ukraine from various directions with cruise missiles fired by air and sea from strategic aircraft and ships.» «In addition, there is a great activity of the occupants’ tactical aviation,» he has pointed out.
In this regard, he has emphasized in a message posted on his account on the social network Facebook that «the work of air defense systems is possible across the entire territory of the state», before asking the population to stay in shelters.
Hours earlier, Ukrainian authorities had denounced the use of several drones by Russia to attack targets in Mikolaiv, Zaporiyia and Dnipro. Later, several groups of these devices were also registered in Kharkov and Poltava. Many of them were shot down by Ukrainian military forces, according to the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN.
According to Ukraine, these devices would be Iranian-made ‘Shahed’ kamikaze drones, claims that are otherwise denied by Tehran.
