At least four people have been killed, including three policemen, and a dozen others injured in a shooting attack on a checkpoint in the Egyptian town of Ismailia, where the Suez Canal is located, for which the Islamic State jihadist organization has claimed responsibility.
The attack occurred on Friday afternoon, according to the Egyptian state-run Al Qahera channel, which confirmed the death of one of the assailants. Most of the wounded are security force recruits and the fourth deceased has not yet been identified.
Already on Saturday, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement published by the SITE organization, which specializes in monitoring jihadist activity in the world.
This attack is part of the conflict that has been going on for years between Egypt and the organization in the Sinai Peninsula, where it regularly commits attacks against security forces and Christian minorities.
