The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has shown his skepticism on Thursday regarding the announcement given by his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to carry out a Ukrainian truce on the occasion of Orthodox Christmas and believes that he is only trying to buy time.
«I am reluctant to respond to anything Putin says. It’s interesting. He was prepared to shell hospitals, kindergartens and churches on December 25 and on New Year’s Day,» Biden has said when asked by the press.
«I mean, I think he’s trying to find some oxygen,» the U.S. leader said, in line with the assessments coming from Kiev, which considers Putin’s announcement to be nothing more than a «trap» and «a purely propaganda gesture.»
On the occasion of the celebration of Orthodox Christmas, which is celebrated on January 6 and 7, President Putin announced a truce at the request of Patriarch Kirill, the highest religious figure of this Church in Russia.
