El Ratón’, a member of the Sinaloa cartel, has already been arrested in the city of Culiacán, in the northwest of the country, although he was later released in an attempt to «pacify» the chaos caused by his arrest, as armed groups carried out «violent actions» in various parts of the city.
The events occurred in the city of Culiacán, in the northwestern state of Sinaloa. According to the initial version, a patrol of 30 members of the National Guard and the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) was carrying out routine control tasks when it was attacked from a house. The agents took control of the house and detained four people, including ‘El Ratón’.
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador ordered the release of the drug trafficker’s son, who is facing charges in the United States for conspiracy to traffic Mexican cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana.
López Obrador defended that the decision was made to avoid «collateral damage» with his release and that, in spite of everything, there is no «impunity» in the country. The controversial military operation to capture him claimed the lives of up to seven people.
