Taiwan authorities on Wednesday detained three serving military personnel and a retired Air Force officer as they are investigated for allegedly spying to provide information to China.
Three other active military personnel have also been released on bail after all of them were questioned, Taipei’s CNA news agency reported.
The retired military officer, a captain, reportedly started doing business with China after leaving the Air Force in 2013. Subsequently, according to prosecutors, he would have been recruited to serve as a spy for the Asian giant, thanks to his connections with the Army.
According to the investigations, the captain allegedly recruited six officers and allegedly received numerous financial rewards through a fictitious company.
