Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky held a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday, during which they discussed security «cooperation» in the midst of the Russian invasion of the territory.
The Ukrainian president said on his Twitter account that the two discussed the situation around the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant, the exchange of prisoners of war with Russia and the grain export agreement reached with Turkish mediation.
«We have addressed issues in security matters, especially related to the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant, where there should be no invading forces, of the prisoner exchange and the development of the grain pact,» he explained before appreciating the Turkish participation in the «Ukrainian formula for achieving peace.»
On Thursday, Erdogan also spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, to whom he conveyed the need for a «unilateral cease-fire» to promote peace negotiations and put an end to the war with Ukraine, which began almost a year ago.
The Kremlin, for its part, has pointed out that Putin has shown himself «open to a serious dialogue» as long as the Ukrainian government «takes into account the new territorial reality» of the country.
However, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has expressed that Russia refuses to negotiate with Ukraine following the «peace formula» proposed by Zelenski, which has been rejected.
